Giới từ đi kèm cố định sau tính từ (responsible for), danh từ (reliance on) và động từ (contribute to, consist of); V-ing sau giới từ.

Giới từ đi kèm là gì?

Nhiều tính từ, danh từ, động từ luôn đi với một giới từ cố định trước tân ngữ. Giới từ này không suy ra được từ tiếng Việt: “chịu trách nhiệm về” là responsible for, “phụ thuộc vào” là dependent on. Cách học chắc nhất là học cả cụm.

Tính từ + giới từ

Danh từ và động từ + giới từ

Lưu ý quan trọng

Sau giới từ, động từ ở dạng V-ing: capable of solving. Kể cả khi giới từ là to: contribute to reducing, be committed to improving, object to paying.
Động từ và danh từ cùng gốc có thể khác nhau: Sales increased (không giới từ) → an increase in sales; They demand higher pay → a demand for higher pay.
result in (dẫn đến) và result from (do … gây ra) ngược chiều: Smoking results in lung disease. Lung disease often results from smoking.
discuss, emphasise, lack là ngoại động từ, không thêm giới từ: discuss the issue; nhưng danh từ thì có: emphasis on, lack of.
